WHAT ARE THE LEADING CAUSES OF BACTERIAL INFECTION IN PRETERM INFANTS?
Bacterial infection is the leading
cause of neonatal admissions to hospitals, particularly in
developing nations. Bacteremia, meningitis, and respiratory
infection may account for mortality rates in excess of 45%.
The most common site of entry is the bloodstream, usually
secondary to intravenous catheterization. According to the
World Health Organizations Young Infants Study Group,
blood culture isolates were most likely to be Staphylococcus
aureus (23%) followed by Streptococcus pyogenes (20%)
and Escherichia coli (18%). Group B streptococcal infections
are not as prevalent in developing countries, but may
account for significant morbidity in hospitals in the United
States. Cutaneous evidence for infection ranges from
crusts and pustules seen in impetigo neonatorum to the generalized
dusky grey pallor observed with fulminate neonatal
sepsis. Localized infection is far more common.

WHAT PRESERVATIVE DO YOU USE FOR YOUR PRODUCTS? WHAT IS THE SHELF LIFE?
We use three preservative systems in several of our products, but not all. They are phenoxyethanol, propylparaben, and methylparaben. We chose these ingredients for their inert biologic behavior. My own experience and that of my contact allergy colleagues proves these to be the mildest available. I estimate the shelf-life of our product to be over 2 years, however, we are still testing extended stability figures. Hope that helps... Thanks, Dr. Bobby

Can your products (specifically, the miracle stick) be used on infants? My daughter is 5.5 months old and has eczema behind her knees and elbows.
Thanks for your question, Elyse. The hydrocortisone stick is safe for use in infants, even those as young as 5.5 months. Good common sense is always advised when using any topical steroid, including this mild one. Apply 2x/d for 1-2 weeks to decrease inflammation. Should her rash persist beyond this time, you should seek professional medical attention for her. Enjoy your little girl - 6 months is an exciting time for both of you!

I AM A 31 YEAR OLD FEMALE THAT HAS "VERY" SENSITIVE SKIN AND HAVE A HARD TIME FINDING PRODUCTS THAT DO NOT IRRITATE TO THE POINT OF BEING RED, SWOLLEN, AND FLAKY. IS YOUR LINE OF PRODUCTS ALSO GOOD FOR ADULTS?
I really love our products for adults. A number of popular spa lines include various fragrances, colors, and botanicals for a "holistic" or all-natural look and feel. The truth is, these items are potential allergens for ANYONE's skin. The result is itchy, red skin as the body's immune system attempts to target these antigens. At Dr. Bobby we keep it simple - if it doesn't help moisturize or cleanse...it doesn't belong in our bottles!

ARE YOUR PRODUCTS CONSIDERED ALL NATURAL AND ARE THEY TESTED ON ANIMALS?
We would NEVER test our products on animals, just our kids! :-) Seriously, we do not and will never animal test, but we have performed several independent clinical trials with children to insure our product's efficacy and safety. You can access these results through the website, but the punch-line is that we performed better than the leading gold standard moisturizer (petrolatum).
"All natural" is a marketing term that doesn't mean very much to dermatologists. For example, poison ivy is "all-natural" and you don't want that on your skin! We have chosen ingredients with an impeccable safety history. We do not employ botanicals, fragrances, or colors in any of our products because these items cause irritant and allergic reactions.
